Old West Side

The Old West Side neighborhood is considered one of Ann Arbor’s most sought-after gems due to its prime location and rich history. Its mature, tree-lined streets and sidewalks will guide you directly to beautiful downtown Ann Arbor and attractions like the University of Michigan’s Big House football stadium, so you can gather with friends and family to enjoy all of the Big Blue pre-game festivities along with the campus’ arts and cultural offerings like the University of Michigan Museum of Art. You’ll also be surrounded by eateries like Frida Batidos, Q Bakehouse and Market, and Washtenaw Dairy. The area was originally bought by William Maynard in 1845, who divided it up for housing development. Home construction has been steady dating back to the Civil War and continued into the 1970s up to the present day. There are multiple styles in this gorgeous vintage neighborhood: Craftsman, Tudor, Bungalow, Cape Cod, Queen Ann Victorian, and Traditional. Lots are average size but have deep-reaching backyards for spending time on the patio gathering with loved ones. Many of the homes have been given some funky, modern upgrades while maintaining some of the original hardwood floors, doors, and fixtures. Some have gardens, front porches for relaxing, detached garages, and even original carriage houses. This community is also on the National Register of Historic Places and still has a proud and active HOA that hosts events, sends out a neighborhood newsletter, promoting active resident involvement. Students attend Eberwhite Elementary School, Slauson Middle School, and Pioneer High School.
